Even Paranoids Have Enemies
GREGORY LUCE
When I was
in the psych ward
the police would come
a few times a day
and I always tried
to look away.
Late at night when
I’m trying to sleep,
lights flash on the ceiling
and I tense up and wait
for the knock.
And sometimes I think
I’m being followed at night
and it’s only the sound
of my shoes slapping
the sidewalk. That shadow
tilting left is mine.
