my mother shrieks at my father from the alcove in the hallway by the kitchen
saturday morning. he forgot to get snacks for my soccer team again. sleep crumbles from my eyes swirls around the scratches in the brass trim of the bathroom sink it makes friends with the leftover bubblegum toothpaste and i blink the day into life around me. later, i ask my mom in the car on the way to the game if i can’t just stay home. (no was her answer. i suppose you don’t get much say at seven years old.) |
ICARUS GREY won 3rd Place of the Poetry Writing Contest. Icarus is a poet currently based in the Midwest and hailing from Nebraska. Previously having completed part of an AA in English Literature and Creative Writing, they are at present taking a break to focus on their body of work. Having recently completed their first chapbook, The Ancestors Walk in the Garden, they are making preparations to put it out into the world. They are in pursuit of new experiences as well as connecting with their indigenous Sami culture every day.
