Plath in a Plum Tree |

It was beautiful,
but it is gone. I'll need another one Reaching out for the next fruit ripened on the branch. Just before its perilous fall it's at its best I'll need another one For this one was beautiful, but it is gone. I have ventured over and enjoyed its juices to the fullest Robbed it of its descent to what's next Left null but its pit about it Here I am reaching for what's next Holding on to what's now Pretending this hasn't all happened before I've left null but it's pit about it But mustn't I reach out for more? I'm alone in this tree! What should I starve? I've forgotten everything about the branches before I leave null but their pits about them Late summer juices and early spring crunch, the winter’s preserved for the candled nights hunch Are there limbs that will break? I can almost taste that bunch... How low must I go before I hold on To that one Last Taste To leave null but its pit about it Dedicated to and inspired by the work of Sylvia Plath |
