Working: Vol. 4, No. 4 - Issue 16 Winter 2025

A Product of My Environment

Issue 15
God’s holier than thou screamed at me to be
more pure
more quiet
docile
complacent
they screamed until my skin ripped red
horns sprouting from my head
and I dared to exorcise my own demons
wrenching out my teeth
holding up the bloody roots to God’s proclaimed righteous saying
“See? Don’t you see?
This is what you made of me.”

HOLLY AMBER WEBB is the author of two self-published poetry books titled Am I the Villain? and From the River to the Sea: Poetry for a Free Palestine.
