Symbiotic Reflection

Issue 15
Like water watches the sky descend on him,
I’m your mirror, absorbing your
Celestial beauty on my skin.
The greyish moon wears a smile to see herself glow
Through the night’s dark mystery and turbulence.
The sea imitates the sky's luminous patches
When there’s nothing left of his light.
The thirsty clouds wait to sip from the ocean
With the straw of evaporation.
I’m water— everything the sky admires.
She keeps descending on me.
That's how we keep finding ourselves
Through the people after our hearts.
As I set out for life’s maze,
Designed as roads, you watch over me always,
Never leaving me in my bewilderment.

Tukur Ridwan writes from Nigeria, using poetry to explore existential frenzies and tragedies. His works appear in Kelp Journal, Pensive Journal, The Kalahari Review, and elsewhere. He authored A Boy's Tears on Earth's Tongue (Authorpedia, 2019), and The Forgiveness Series (Ghost City Press, 2022).
