were wild berries tart
fish well-seasoned
 
did sweet potatoes sizzle
in its own sweetness
 
hungry is a concept
this body comprehends
 
but hunger is a hollow
no body should ever comprehend --

then there were three
siblings in lonely Baekryeongdo
caption on the back of a photograph.
 
if photos could speak
more than a thousand words
they would plead for the ghosts
 
but grief won’t listen,
won’t reason
to whom these memories belong --
 
after he died
she burned the photographs
it was all she could do.
